Lillypilly Estate 2005 Tramillon ®

Medium-dry white wine, made from traminer and semillon grapes.

Pale yellow colour with green tinge; lychee, floral and spicy; delicate with a lively finish.

LILLYPILLY'S UNIQUE BLEND

At the 1983 Royal Sydney Wine Show, Lillypilly Estate made a resounding debut on the Australian wine scene when one of its first wines, 1982 Tramillon ®, won a gold medal and the trophy for Best NSW White Wine.

This unique blend, which brings together two of the world's great white grape varieties — gewurztraminer and semillon — has become one of Lillypilly Estate's hallmark wines.

Gewurztraminer has its home in Alsace and makes wines that are extremely spicy, fragrant and seductive.

Semillon is an important variety in Bordeaux and also Australia, where it is widely grown in many regions, including the Hunter Valley, Margaret River, the Barossa Valley and the Riverina. It is an extremely versatile grape variety which can be used to make both luscious, sweet botrytised wines and crisp, fresh dry whites.

Lillypilly Estate's Tramillon ® combines the fragrance of gewurztraminer with the full-bodied freshness of semillon to provide an immensely satisfying slightly sweet white wine.

MEDIA REVIEWS — CURRENT VINTAGE

Lillypilly Estate 2005 Tramillon ... Lillypilly's Robert Fiumara is a thoughtful winemaker who explores many different wine styles in his winery with great success. Tramillon is a tram iner-sem il Ion blend made into a slightly sweet wine of juicy gluggability.

CURRENT RELEASE 2005: The traminer component definitely leads the way here, imparting exotic lychee and Turkish delight aromas of seductive perfume. It's sweetish in the mouth with spicy traminer flavours of attractive intensity, but the sweetness doesn't quite reach a cloying level. It finishes soft in acidity yet clean and appetising. It might work with sweet and sour Chinese dishes. SEE CLIPPING

Best-value sweet white

Writing in his popular guide, Don't Buy Wine Without Me 2007, Stuart Gregor has selected the Lillypilly 2002 Noble Sauvignon Blanc as his best-value sweet white for the year. "This is one of the most delicious sweet wines I've tasted in years. And I like the fact that it's made from sauvignon blanc, it just seems to give the wine that extra little tang that cranks up the yum factor another notch. Always have a bottle of this in the fridge. Stuart also had some nice things to say about the Lillypilly 2005 Tramillon: "This is a wine that offers nice aromatics and some fruity sweetness, and it's a pretty good bet to accompany Indian food. FULL REVIEW

Lillypilly 2005 Tramillon ... Two often much maligned grape varieties now united together in vinous matrimony pulled together to delight the olfactory senses and palate alike. Think rose petal, musk and lychee aromas, a very light spritz character, all delicate and fragrantly fruit on the nose. Lovely fresh accompanying acidity that offsets the fruit sweetness. Gorgeously light on the palate and delivered with a remarkable refreshing burst of fruity flavours. A good wine at around $12. Goes very well with Indian cuisine so try with pan fried green prawn cutlets with dry chillies, garlic, ginger and curry leave spices.
