LILLYPILLY'S SOFT RED STANDS TEST OF TIME: The flood of light-red styles over the past couple of years suggests that winemakers are searching for the right formula(s) ... There are not many long-term players in this caper. That is why a label and a winemaker that has a light red with more than 20 years in the bag warrants investigation. BACK TO THE DECKCHAIR: Lillypilly Estate 2006 Gypsy Rose ... really, really good ... Made in a dry style overall, the nose unmistakeably gusges fruit fresh, vibrant and ripe stuff at that. Strawberries, raspberries and watermelon abound. Well rounded and luscious in mouthfeel, it finishes in a very savoury manner. Perfect with smoked salmon and cold potato salad. Enough said, requirements fulfilled back to the deck chair (for a siesta perhaps)! Paul Ippolito, The Five-Minute Wine Rush (www.paulippolito.com.au) 18 February 2007 SEE CLIPPING
